During dinner with my parents, my mom mentioned that for some reason, looking at me talking brought up a memory of when I was a toddler and was seeing a pediatrician who had two cats roaming freely in his office. A summation of the story could be worded as, "He was a really good doctor, but his cats had a habit of biting people and sometimes drawing blood."

I guess the 80's really were a wild decade.

I'm open for 5 small sketch requests again.

As long as it's nothing that I'd have to tag as Mature and there's no more than 2 characters per request, I'm fairly flexible.

EDIT (9/10/17): Slots are now open (3 remaining)!

Not sure how this is going to work, but I still figured I'd give it a shot:

Five small, simple sketch requests. One per person, no more than a couple of characters per request ("simple" is the key word here), nothing that would need to be tagged as Mature Content, and if there isn't something like it in my gallery already...well, I'll try my best.

So...your move.

EDIT: Slots have been filled! Now I just need to get to drawing.

I'm sorry to have to announce this, but even though at the start of this year I'd hoped I'd have Adventure: Welcome to the Genre finished by 2016, that hasn't happened. It's very close to completion, but I haven't been able to do any more work on it this year. I haven't been feeling well for some time, and I've barely been able to do anything creative. I've been trying to get help, but so far, nothing seems to have made me feel better.

Again, I'm sorry.

My inner dialog at a book sale at a small local library:
Huh, that's a cute little book sitting out here on its own.
[leafs through a few pages, then closes book]
Hmm...it looks kind of old. I wonder how old it is.
[looks inside front cover, sees the sentence "Published in 1900", very carefully re-closes cover]

[Context: I live in a small town which has a trolley drawn by pair of Clydesdales that tours the main streets. I was walking around town today. and as the trolley was passing by, a girl that looked like she was about four years old spotted it, and had the following "exchange" with her tired-sounding father:]

Girl: Ponies!
Dad: They're not ponies; they're large horses.
Girl: Ponies!
Dad: They're not ponies.
Girl: Ponieees!
Dad: No...
Girl: Ponies!
[several more repetitions of "Ponies!" followed this, with no more responses from the parental unit]

This story is a few months older, but I figured I'd toss it in as well:
[My 20-something sister, describing seeing Star Wars: Episode VII with her boyfriend, without having any prior knowledge about the film beforehand]:
"And as we're sitting there waiting for the movie to start, I'm saying, 'Finally, a Star Wars movie with a black Jedi!' Then the movie actually starts, and I'm like, '*Gasp!* A GIRL Jedi!'"
[Her boyfriend and I both point out that a black Jedi and at least one female Jedi have already appeared in the prequels, to which she responds]:
"Oh, I'm not counting the prequels."
[I mentally start beating my head off of the nearest hard surface]

Looks like my "Done by the end of the year" prediction for Adventure: Welcome to the Genre might have been a bit too optimistic. The game is still being worked on, though, and has almost reached the alpha-testing stage. I can't say for sure when it will be done, but it will definitely be released sometime in 2016.

So for now, Happy New Year!

After nearly three years of work, I'm happy to announce that I'm nearly through with development on my (nearly) solo game project, Adventure: Welcome to the Genre.

It's the third game in the Thalia James series (the name I've decided to call it, since "the Adventure series" was too generic), which so far consists of Adventure: The Inside Job and Adventure: All in the Game. Hopefully, it should be done by the end of this year (fingers crossed).

For those of you unfamiliar with the series, the premise is a lot like the one in Disney's Wreck-It Ralph, except the first two games were made before that movie was released, and the focus here isn't on arcade games, but computer games -- specifically, 2D adventure games.

Here's some screenshots:

Well, the AdventureJam voting period is finally over. We didn't get first place in any of the Community Choice categories, but we still did pretty well overall.
Plus, we won a Judge's Pick Award! Boogie! jams.gamejolt.io/adventurejam/…

Thanks to anyone who voted for our game!

I spent the last two weeks collaborating with a group of friends to create a game for the 2015 Adventure Jam. I did some of the coding, some of the writing, and a tiny percent of the artwork. It's a delightfully insane diversion that turned out surprisingly free of any serious bugs (though there are still a few minor glitches).

If you like adventure games and have a couple of free hours, check it out (and if you liked the game, please consider voting for it)!

(It's currently Windows-only, but a Mac version may be on the way.)

Pumbaa Action Figure: $4
Zazu Figurine: $1 SOLD!
Adult Simba Figurine (2): $3 each

Simba Action Figure: $4
Timon Figurine: $1

Please PM me if you're interested in buying any of these figures! (Alternately, if you have this Zazu collectable figure, I could trade any one of these figures for it.)

Well, it's been a while since I've posted a journal entry here, partly because there aren't that any topics that have inspired me to write about them for some time.

However, I recently found out about a new adventure game Kickstarter for a sequel to a game I played some time ago called Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb, and I just had to mention it here. After many sequel-less years, it looks like there might finally be a follow-up to this fun little game, provided it manages to get funded in the next few weeks:

It's been several months, but at long last, I and a friend from the Janitorial Times have completed and released a sequel to the original Pledge Quest.

The Two Guys From Andromeda's Space Venture project may have reached its goal, but there is still an opportunity to pitch in. Following in the footsteps of Pledge Quest I, Pledge Quest II is a short fan game that will provide players with hours of amusing entertainment (if it is played very, very slowly), and hopefully motivate one or two folks to contribute to the Space Venture stretch goals to help make the final product even more of a blast.

(Oh yeah -- the Pledge Quest series now has its own website!)

Well, the SpaceVenture Kickstarter fund was a resounding success. It was amazing to see that number suddenly start skyrocketing less than a day before the deadline hit. I was pretty nervous for a while, but all that cautious optimism and those three grueling days I spent working on Pledge Quest really seem worth it now. This is truly a great day for fans of Sierra On-Line's classic adventures.

There's less than a week until the Two Guys From Andromeda's Kickstarter deadline rolls around - kck.st/JVeY2T

So in order to motivate a few people into donating, I and a few other SQ fans have spent several sleepless nights putting together a one-room AGS game to promote the Kickstarter. I did the programming and most of the art while Jess Morrisette (of the one and only Virtual Broomcloset) did most of the writing. If you' don't really feel like donating to this Kickstarter, this game may change your mind.

Pledge Quest

(Mirror [which includes one minor correction)

(By the way: This game is Windows-only [at least for now.])

Well, the Two Guys from Andromeda have done the inevitable and launched a Kickstarter fund for their new SpaceVenture project - kck.st/JVeY2T

It's only been a few weeks, but already their team has put out some promising-looking stuff, including several podcasts, the promise of some pretty well-known voice actors acting in their game (including the one and only Gary Owens) and a very primitive demo. The latter might not be much to look at, but putting out an actual prototype demo is a step above most of the other adventure game veterans' Kickstarter-funded projects (who have mostly released sprites and backgrounds, and not too much else).

We've got less than a month 'til the deadline and we're almost halfway there already...but nonetheless, let's fund the heck out of this thing.

By the way, you don't need to download Google Chrome to play the demo. One of the members of the Janitorial Times has graciously uploaded a version which should work in all browsers. Unfortunately, it runs pretty slow in Firefox and apparently doesn't work at all in IE.

(Oh, and Ken Williams is supporting them as well. This is totally awesome.)
