Idony and Selda ([link]) watching the sun rise.

I was looking at a photo of a stone bridge yesterday, then suddenly this image popped into my head, and today, I've finished this piece. It seems like my most impulsive ideas are the only ones that get done these days.

I really cheated on the background -- it's a Bryce 4 rendering that I painted over and modified in PSP 7. Still, it came out a lot better than I thought.

An interesting note: I thought Idony and Selda were slightly below the center of this piece when it was almost done, but when I went to convert it to a JPG, PSP's little preview window (which shows you a 100x100 shot focused on the center of the image) framed the two almost perfectly. I was so surprised that I drew some lines from one corner of the piece to the other, and sure enough, despite my not making any exact measurements, they were almost exactly in the center. I think that negative space at the top of the picture makes them seem farther down the canvas than they actually are.

(And I realized at the last minute that I'd put Idony's dagger and pouch on the wrong sides of her body -- gaaah!)

Woah, getting something in the exact center is hard, it's always fun to find random things like that when you weren't even trying xD

It has such a calm feel to it.

I know. It doesn't happen too often, which makes it really special when it does. Thank you.

That is beautiful. What a great idea. :) I never thought of mixing Bryce with paint like that.

Thanks. I've put 2D characters on 3D backgrounds before, but they never looked convincing enough. With enough shading, however, they start to look less like figures pasted on a photorealistic scene. Softening the scenery to make it look more "painted" helped as well.

The background is a modified 3D rendering. Bryce isn't the best 3D graphics program, but it's cheap and you can create some nice scenery with it.

Well, cheated or not, this is a very good piece. Everything (the subtle colors, the stonework on the bridge, the figures) ties in nicely for a work of art that is charged with the figure's emotions. I almost feel like I'm there with them.

:thumbsup::) good work.
